The body never lies

You'll understand once you experience it

Physical signals are true reflections of emotions and inner life. The body stores emotional experiences. Listening to these signals leads to greater authenticity and balance. Sometimes the body whispers these signals; sometimes the alarm goes off.

Grow through attention

Space for yourself in relation to others

Haptonomy is also about our relationships with others. As babies, we are completely dependent on others for our survival. Over the course of our lives, we have evolved in this regard, and a “pattern” has emerged for how we interact with certain people in certain situations. That pattern is shaped by your own temperament and your experiences.

Who is this for?

Haptonomy helps you explore your emotional life and become more aware of your motivations and your actions. If you want to grow personally, if you’re experiencing physical discomfort, or if you’re feeling stuck in your relationships or work, haptonomy can offer a solution:

Stress-related symptoms

Stressful situations often cause you to (unconsciously) tense up parts of your body. Over time, this can lead to physical and mental symptoms, as well as changes in your behavior.

“Unexplained” physical symptoms

Your body seems to be conveying a message through discomfort, tension, or pain. What is that message?

Burnout

You're completely exhausted—you've pushed yourself too hard for too long, and now you've reached your limit! In the short term, your body will need time to recover, and in the long term, we can explore how you can better manage stress and pressure.

Pregnancy

You're pregnant! You can start bonding with your baby even before the birth. Together with your partner, you can prepare for the birth and learn how to cope with the intensity and pain.

Difficult relationships

In relationships, your boundaries can become blurred, or you might be so free-spirited that you have few relationships to build.

Fear

Fear is necessary for survival, but sometimes it takes over and gets in the way of “normal” life. What can you do about panic attacks or mental blocks?

Here is a selection of conditions that can be addressed through haptonomy.

Please note: Haptonomy does not offer quick fixes, and you won’t become “a completely different person” or “your old self.” You’ll often learn how to approach things a little differently, on an emotional level. This leads to different outcomes.

Haptonomy can also be effective when combined with other therapies. For example, alongside psychotherapy, which focuses on analysis and the past and primarily involves talking and analyzing. But it can also be combined with family constellations, which seek to explain (family) structures rooted in the past through a systemic overview.

How does haptonomy work?

conversation

During our conversation, we’ll work together to clarify what’s going on with you, what you want to address, and how you respond in certain situations.

Touch

Touch is a direct way for you to feel what there is to feel, and for me to help you experience what our connection with you (and with me) does.

Exercise

In exercises, you can clearly sense what happens to your body and to you when you’re placed in a certain situation. It’s a concrete experience of how you handle things and what you do in a (sometimes challenging) situation.

Haptonomy is an experiential approach, guided by your feelings.

Diana Jasperse

Curious, open-minded, and versatile.

I’m the youngest of five children. That’s where I learned to observe, sense “the mood,” and figure out what I needed to do to fit in (or not). I’ve always been very active in sports and have often enjoyed doing home improvement projects and traveling. Blessed with a knack for math, I went on to study it. And after working for a few years in a truly high-pressure environment, things started to feel off. Because I couldn’t fully satisfy my desire for genuine connection with people, fun, and adventure. I couldn’t fully live out that desire. From my sports background, I knew my body pretty well, and “it never lies.” I went through life with high muscle tension, sports injuries, and an ever-growing to-do list.

Thanks to haptonomy, I have become a more well-rounded person, found myself in calmer waters, and my interactions with others have become more genuine.

Tell me: how do you deal with your emotions?
Anger

Will the plates fly across the room, or will you just shut down and say nothing? Do others notice anything? How does it feel physically?

sadness

What does your grief feel like? How do you express it? Is it normal for you to be comforted? Do you feel comfortable expressing it to everyone? How do you deal with your own vulnerability?

Joy

Are you outgoing and full of life, or quiet and reserved? Can others tell when you’re happy? Do you act differently toward others throughout the day?

fear

How does your body feel when you're scared? What's your natural reaction? Do you fight, flee, freeze, or submit? Do you have any phobias? Do you like horror movies?
