You hear it more and more often:

‘“It takes a village to raise a child.”

A listening ear, shared burdens, shared joys, learning from one another. Being able to share your deepest thoughts, feeling like you’re part of something bigger. An encounter with yourself as you become a mother.

In five group sessions leading up to childbirth, we explore various topics related to motherhood through haptonomic guidance. One session is with your partner.

How? Start by really tuning into how you’re feeling. What challenges do you face? What do you avoid? What gives you energy, and why? How do you view pain, and how do you deal with it? Also, consider how becoming a mother will impact the relationship within which you’re having a child. We’ll focus on getting to know each other through our feelings. Who is that little one in your belly? Connect with yourself, your partner, and your baby.

We communicate with words, but we also let the body join in the conversation. We empathize. We use conversation, experiential exercises, and touch. The body knows exactly what it’s all about. Not vague, but factual, understandable, and tangible.

Let the group lift you up and learn from one another and about yourself. Inspire each other and hold up a mirror to one another. In a safe environment, you can explore your individuality. Develop tools to embrace motherhood with confidence. Move from “Am I doing this right?” to “This is how I want to do it.”

Through this haptonomic group session, we aim to create a space where a mini-village can take shape.
